Dear Parishioners,
I am hoping that you are doing well. I express my heartfelt thanks to all those who so generously continue to make donations to the parish. It is a great help! God’s blessings be yours.
There is no news yet on when we will open for Masses. We are at least closed until May 20, 2020 or when Archbishop Blair gives the signal to celebrate public Masses and liturgies. Please, continue to pray for patience and an end to Covid-19.
To keep with the continuity of the liturgical calendar, I write to inform you that the two statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary have been crowned for the month of May, as this is our rich, deep-rooted Catholic tradition.
I invite you to pay a visit to church to pray in front of Our Lady’s image, in church and/or our shrine outside the church. All of the vigil light candles have been changed to the color blue in honor of the Mother of God.
Pope Francis often prays for Mary’s intercessions to bring an end to the coronavirus pandemic. Perhaps we can join the Pope in this great endeavor for the month of May.
My dear parishioners, I miss celebrating Mass for all of you. I know you very much miss the Eucharist, too. May we continue to pray for on another, asking the kind prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Fr. Ron
Dear Parishoners and Guests,
I take this opportunity to welcome you to our St Aloysius Church web site. We are located in the Plantsville section of Southington, Connecticut, in Hartford County. Our parish was established in 1961 and sits on 11 1/2 acres of land. We boast a beautiful C.C.D. center and administrative office building (2008) and a beautiful rectory built in 1973. We are grateful to Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien (1945 - 1968) for establishing us under the patronage of St Aloysius Gonzaga (1568 - 1591). The name Aloysius is the Latinization of the italian name Luigi. In English that is: Louis.
St Aloysius was the Italian Royal House of Castiglione. He entered the Jesuit Order and died of the plague administering to the people of Rome who had the plague. He himself contracted the plague and Our Lord called him home at the age of 23. He was just shy of being ordained a priest.
This parish is humbly and justifiably proud to claim St Aloysius as our own. There were three ways that he lived out his short life: Great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrement, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and concern and love for the poor and sick. Thus adoration of the Blessed Sacrement takes place each Monday evening from 6 - 7 p.m. Throughout the year there is a private devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This parish crowns two statutes of Our Blessed Lady in May...one on the outside of the church and one on the inside. As far as concern for the needy, we collect non-parishable food each Sunday which is then distributed to those less fortunate. By far our largest contribution to the needy is at Christmas, when the great generosity of our parishioners far exceeds all expectation for unfortunate children. These three are in keeping with the charism and sprituality of St Aloysius.
The colonial style of the church presents a very simple building with stained-glass windows as its prominent feature. Since St Aloysius was young at death, all the windows reflect youth, since he is the Patron Saint of Youth.
I would be remiss if I did not thank all the Pastors who had served here: +Fr. Robert Chagnon(first), +Fr. Jospeh Gorman (second), +Fr. John Blanchfield (third), and Fr. Kevin Dillon (fourth)...plus the many, many priests who have passed through to celebrate Mass and offer uplifting sermons and light humor.
As you read this, I welcome you to join us for weekday Mass or Sunday Mass. Perhaps you would like to visit for payer as the church is open Monday thru Saturday from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. On Sundays, the church is open from 6 a.m. - 12 noon.
Please continue reading for any and all information about Masses, devotions, societies, church events and more. It would be our pleasure for you to join us. I remain your in Jesus Christ.
